Kite Flying Guidelines

Kite flying is super fun and some basic rules will help keep you safe. Here are some guidelines and precautions to keep in mind.

  • Avoid flying your kite near other people that are also flying kites.
  • Don’t fly your kite close to roads or highways. If your kite was to land in a roadway, it could cause a traffic accident.
  • Keep clear of large trees, buildings, electric power poles, signs, etc.
  • Never fly your kite in winds speeds above 20 miles per hour (MPH) If the wind picks up and you should stop flying the kite.
  • Don’t fly your kite in stormy weather and if you hear thunder roar, get indoors quickly. A wet kite string is conductive for lightning!
  • Wind can be a powerful force, so wear cut resistant gloves when flying larger kites to keep you hands being injured by the string.
  • Don’t allow young children fly kites without adult supervision.
